I grew up with a dad who taught me how to prune tea roses correctly - perhaps an English skill he brought with him? At 10, I had a 9’ x 9’ x 9’ triangular space where enough sunlight hit for tomatoes and radishes.

D moved me onto 2 acres in 1993 and Big Garden (aka Gwendolen’s Garden) was born the following summer. I transformed it a year or two later to resemble French potagers after a trip to Italy (yeah, that make perfect sense,) and started raising the beds in 2025. Shouldv’e started much earlier!

I’ve spent years reading all the books I could buy or borrow, and hours following too many gardeners to name. Plus, I spent 5 seasons working hands-on at my favorite locally-owned garden center. What I don’t grow from seed, probably comes from that beautiful store

With over 30 years of kitchen gardening experience, I’ve learned much about what to do and what to avoid. I’m still learning too! And love to share that experience.
